Can I just brag for a second?

Arguements and hurt feelings are a natural part of being married, I suppose. True, they're not a desired part of relationships but it's part of being human and living in a fallen world. I couldn't begin to estimate how Eric and I rate in the argument department compared to other couples and it honestly doesn't matter. We are who we are. We argue how we argue.

However, one area I have always been challenged by is the resolutions of said arguments. It seems there are as many manners in which to "make up", as there are situations to argue about! One technique Eric and I have (sadly) fallen into is the "if you won't talk to me, I won't talk to you" approach and last night was a great example of this.

I won't get into the particular details of what happened last night because what I'm most excited to share was what Eric did this morning! After having both chosen to have icy shoulders, I last night and he this morning, he came into our bedroom before leaving for work and just laid it all out on the table! I'm paraphrasing here but essentially he said, "I realize what happened last night. I realize my part in it and I think you realize your part, too. (to which I nodded my head, yes!) It's more important for us to be talking things out, so I'm going to be the first to call this ridiculous game for what it is and put an end to it."

A game! He nailed it on the head when he called our charades just that, a game! Not only did he shed light on the ridiculous nature of our actions but he made the very bold and difficult step to put down whatever "right" he had to be angry with me and instead, chose the path of love. Love for me. Love for our Lord who has claimed this relationship as holy and good. Love for our children and the cohesive front we want to present to them each day.

So, bravo to you, honey for stepping outside of yourself and choosing the brighter path. Thanks for giving of yourself in the many ways you do. XOXO
